The story behind
In Argentina, you can't have a party without these. We call them 'sรกndwiches de miga', and they are basically the definition of shared joy. I have so many memories of festive afternoons where these were the first things to disappear from the table. The secret is keeping the bread incredibly moistโthat's what gives them that 'melt-in-your-mouth' feel. They are ideal for a fancy afternoon tea or a light dinner appetizer. I'd definitely pair them with a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc or even a light sparkling wine. They are delicate, fresh, and honestly, quite addictive!
Instructions
-
1Lightly spread the bread slices with a mix of softened butter and a tiny splash of water to keep them moist.
-
2Layer the smoked salmon on the first slice, then add another slice spread with a bit of cream cheese.
-
3Evenly distribute the fresh arugula leaves and top with the final slice of bread.
-
4Gently press down with your hand to make sure all the layers stick together perfectly.
-
5Cut into neat rectangles or triangles and keep them under a damp cloth until you're ready to serve to prevent drying out.
