The story behind

In Argentina, you can't have a party without these. We call them 'sรกndwiches de miga', and they are basically the definition of shared joy. I have so many memories of festive afternoons where these were the first things to disappear from the table. The secret is keeping the bread incredibly moistโ€”that's what gives them that 'melt-in-your-mouth' feel. They are ideal for a fancy afternoon tea or a light dinner appetizer. I'd definitely pair them with a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc or even a light sparkling wine. They are delicate, fresh, and honestly, quite addictive!

Instructions

  1. 1
Lightly spread the bread slices with a mix of softened butter and a tiny splash of water to keep them moist.
  2. 2
Layer the smoked salmon on the first slice, then add another slice spread with a bit of cream cheese.
  3. 3
Evenly distribute the fresh arugula leaves and top with the final slice of bread.
  4. 4
Gently press down with your hand to make sure all the layers stick together perfectly.
  5. 5
Cut into neat rectangles or triangles and keep them under a damp cloth until you're ready to serve to prevent drying out.
