The story behind
There’s something incredibly nostalgic about the smell of cinnamon and sizzling butter in the kitchen. I’ve always felt that French toast is the ultimate breakfast hug. Even though it's called 'French,' versions of this recipe go all the way back to the Roman Empire! I love making this when I have fresh berries in the fridge that need to be the star of the show. It’s perfect for a slow breakfast or even a sweet treat for a weekend brunch. I personally suggest pairing it with a glass of cold orange juice or a frothy latte. It just makes the whole morning feel better.
Instructions
-
1Whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon in a shallow bowl until smooth.
-
2Dip each slice of bread into the custard, making sure it’s well-soaked but not falling apart.
-
3Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat until it starts to foam.
-
4Fry the bread for 3-4 minutes per side until it reaches a beautiful golden-brown color.
-
5Plate the toast and garnish with fresh berries and a side of maple syrup or honey.
